# Versions and deprecations

> Compatibility promises for the Revero server SDKs and browser recorder.

The `revero` Rust SDK and `@revero/recorder` follow Semantic Versioning and
version independently. An update to one does not force an update to the other.

Public API `/v1` and SDK major versions are related contracts, not the same
number:

* compatible API additions produce an SDK minor release;
* compatible fixes produce a patch release;
* removing or changing a public SDK symbol requires a new SDK major; and
* one SDK major may support more than one HTTP API version.

Before `1.0.0`, a minor version may contain a breaking change and its release
notes must say so explicitly. After `1.0.0`, a deprecated public symbol remains
functional for at least six months and through the next minor release. Its
replacement is documented before a major release removes it.

Security or legal emergencies may shorten that window. The release notes must
name the exception and the migration path.

Bad immutable crates.io releases are yanked and replaced by a new version. npm
releases are deprecated rather than silently re-tagged.
